T.S Eliot was many things : poet , playwright , essayist , critic , merchant banker , Nobel Prize winner , publisher , editor , teacher .
At his best he was a terrific poet with a knack for stark imagery & a ringing music . At his worst , such as The Four Quartets or the early drafts of The Waste Land , he was just terribly long winded . A light hearted effort , Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats , much later became the basis of the hit musical Cats . I’m not sure anyone deserves that kind of punishment .
