Seventeen ‘syllables’, or less…

I’m in the country for a week, solo,no telvision, so lots of looking at sky and ocean. Some walking, the usual exercise and meditation routines. This seems a good time to introduce two quite different haiku masters.

Masoaka Shiki was a traditionalst who saught to update the classical form and make it suitable for contemporary use.

Sendoka Taneda abandoned the classical constraints while seeking to maintain the spirit of the genre.
